Drive to Fussen

We left Linderhof Palace and headed southwest towards Fussen.  For part of the trip, we drove alongside Lake Plansee.

Instead of going straight to Fussen, our destination for tonight, we turned south because we watched to check out the Zugspitze, tallest point in Germany.  Along the way, we passed underneath this Suspension footbridge -- sky bridge, supposedly the longest one in the world -- spanning 406m (1,332 feet) over a river gorge, linking castle ruins with a Roman-era fort.   Sorry, not for me.

Passing by the Burgruine Ehrenberg, ruins of a Gothic castle that housed kings, emperors & tsars before slipping into ruin.

Then we turned west.  That has to be the Zugspitze straight ahead.  You can see a gondola lift on the left-hand side.

There are two gondola lifts, one on the German side and one on the Austrian side.  We made it to the one on the Austrian side, near the small town of Ehrwald, arriving just in time to see the last gondola of the day head up the mountain!  Poor planning on my part.

Oh well, next time.

It took us an hour to backtrack from Erwald to Fussen due to traffic.
